On 23rd May, 2021, the Nile Basin Initiative’s Executive Director visited construction sites of the Regional Rusumo Falls Hydroelectric Project. Prof. Seifeldin Hamad Abdalla, Executive Director of the was impressed by the implementation status of the project.
The Nile Basin Initiative is a key factor in the success of Rusumo Project, which signed the Project Implementation Support Agreement with the Rusumo Power Company Limited (RPCL) through the Nile Equatorial Lakes Subsidiary Action Program Coordination Unit (NELSAP-CU) for the development and construction of the 80 MW Hydroelectric Power Plant at Rusumo Falls on River Kagera at the One-Stop Border Post of the Republic of Rwanda and the United Republic of Tanzania in 2013.
As the NBI through NELSAP has always demonstrated ability to manage transboundary projects, NELSAP is successfully managing the implementation and supervision of the Rusumo Project during preparation and construction phase. “I am well impressed by the implementation progress of the Project of about 78%”, said Prof. Seifeldin.
