The Rwanda NELSAP Governance visited the 80MW Regional Rusumo Falls Hydroelectric Project (RRFHP) implemented by NELSAP Project Implementation Unit at Rusumo Falls at the border between Rwanda (Kirehe district) and Tanzania (Ngara district) on 14th April, 2021.
The Nile Equatorial Lakes Technical Advisory Committee (NELTAC) governance members included Mr. DUHUZE Remy Norbert from Rwanda Water Resources Board (RWB) and Mrs. Jacqueline NYIRAKAMANA from the Rwanda Ministry of Environment; they came along with Mr. Sylvain GASANGWA, advisor of the Rwanda Minister for Environment. They Rwanda governance officials were accompanied by NELSAP-CU Senior Management staff headed by Eng. Maro Andy TOLA, acting Regional Coordinator of NELSAP. NELSAP delegation was received by senior management staff of Rusumo Power Company Limited (RPCL) and AECOM, the Owner’s Engineer together with other Project’s engineering and technical workers.
NELSAP viewed the project status at site which overall progress is at about 76%. The visitors were taken at the power intake and the switchyard sites located on Rwanda side. Mr. Bosco Mugabo, Chief Resident Engineer of AECOM reiterated that “the project implementation was a bit slowed down because of Covid-19 pandemic but we are now doing our best to speed up works and recover time finish as soon as possible”, he explained.
