Rwanda Eastern Province Governor visits Rusumo Construction Sites
On 30th March, 2021, the newly appointed Rwanda Eastern Province Governor, Mr. Emmanuel Gasana and other high-level officials including Kirehe District Mayor, Mr. Gerald Muzungu visited the Regional Rusumo Falls Hydroelectric Project located at Rusumo border between Rwanda and Tanzania. The Governor called on the Project to take stock of the Project’s progress and as the implementation of the Project is in his Province.
The provincial delegation was received by Eng. Bosco Mugabo, Chief Resident Engineer of the Owner’s Engineer, AECOM and other Project’s engineering and technical workers on behalf of NELSAP and RPCL’s Management.
He presented the project status update highlighting that the overall progress is at 75%. He took the visitors at the power intake and the switchyard sites located on Rwanda side. “The project implementation was slowed down a bit because of Covid-19 pandemic but we are now doing our best to speed up works and recover time finish as soon as possible’, he explained.
The Eastern Governor, Mr.Gasana appreciated the work seen at the site, where he visited the dam site and the switchyard situated in Rwanda side.
The Switchyard is a tri-national trading node which may become the location of a regional dispatching center and is linked to the transmission lines (TLs) project that is now constructing three double circuit 220 kV transmission lines and several sub-stations. The length of overhead lines is 372 km, of which 118 km is for Rwanda, 94 km is for Tanzania and 160 km is for Burundi, 56 km of which will go through the territory of Tanzania.
