Rwanda Energy Group Leadership visits Rusumo Project
On 28th February 2021, the Regional Rusumo Falls Hydroelectric Project hosted the CEO of Rwanda Energy Group, Eng. Ron Weiss in visit to Rusumo construction sites to witness progress of constructions works. REG head’s visit was followed by a call on of Managing Directors of Energy Utility Corporation Limited (EUCL), Eng. Armand Zingiro and Energy Development Corporation Limited (EDCL), Eng. Felix Gakuba on 5th March 2021, the latter being a member of RPCL’s board of directors. The leaders of Rwandan Utility came to Rusumo construction site to take stock of Rusumo Project’s construction progress.
The Rwandan Utility REG together with Tanzanian’s TANESCO and Burundian’s REGIDESO are important partners of the Regional Rusumo Falls Hydroelectric Project in implementing the associated three Transmission Lines Project that will directly connect the Rusumo 80MW Power Plant to the national grids of Burundi, Rwanda and Tanzania. The generated electricity will be equally shared among the three countries each benefiting about 26MW. Rwanda transmission lines project will distribute power from Rusumo-Bugesera and Bugesera-Shango substations with 221 towers. REG is also instrumental in the preparation of the Power Purchase Agreements on Rwandan side.
After a tour to the switchyard site, REG CEO expressed his appreciation of the progress made so far and highlighted that REG is ensuring to complete the transmission lines project on time.
