Foreign Expatriates Committee from Tanzania Ministry of Energy in visit to Rusumo Project
The Regional Rusumo Falls Hydroelectric Project hosted the Foreign Expatriates Committee from Tanzania Ministry of Energy during the week of 22nd to 26th February, 2021.
The visitors came to take took stock of the Project progress and bring support to matters related to cross-border movement of Project’s staff, equipment and materials.
During the visit, the committee was welcomed and accompanied by RPCL and NELSAP management led by NELSAP Acting Regional Coordinator, Eng. Andy Malo Tola. The visitors were taken to site visit and after, the committee held a meeting with different Project actors including NELSAP, RPCL, Owners Engineer/OE, CP1 and CP2 to discuss cross-border matters with.
The Project employs a considerable number of personnel with different tasks to be done on a regular basis daily and predictably and required to move from one site physically located on Rwandan territory to another site situated on Tanzania territory, with heavy machinery and equipment at the border of Rwanda and Tanzania.
The Foreign Expatriates Committee from Tanzania Ministry of Energy visited to discuss on issues related to working and residents permits, employment passes, visas and other permits which are normally issued by the Committee to facilitate Project’s activities.
The committee composed of six members including the Director of Human Resources and Administration, the Assistant Director of Human Resources and Administration, the Human Resource Officer, the Director of Policy and Planning at the Tanzania Ministry of Energy and the Assistant Director of Human Resources and Administration at the President’s Office as well as the Regional Labor in charge of the Kagera Region.
The committee had opportunity to visit project areas by visiting all project construction sites with exception of switchyard due to border closure. The organized site visit helped to orient the committee to understand the project’s technical and logistical aspects and all key players in the project.
