RPCL Burundi Governance Visits LADP Burundi and Transmission Lines in Gitega-Muyinga-Rusumo
RPCL Governance members accompanied with Communication Team from Burundi Ministry of Energy visited projects of the Local Area Development Program (LADP) in Muyinga and Kirundo provinces of Burundi from March 15th to 18th, 2021.
LADP is funded under the framework of the Regional Rusumo Falls Hydroelectric Project and implemented by NELSAP-PIU for Rusumo Power Company Limited.
The visiting delegation was headed by the Chairman of Board of Directors of Rusumo Power Company Limited (RPCL), Eng. Nolasque Ndayihaye with his Board counterpart and members of Burundi Project Steering Committee.
The Chairman of RPCL Board appreciated the advancement of LADP activities and urged beneficiary communes and leadership to speed up the process to equip these youth training and health centers. “After visiting LADP projects of Busoni and Giteranyi, I am very optimistic that the surrounding communities will make good use of these social infrastructures and I am confident that this will add value to their quality of life”, he reiterated.
The visiting delegation also visited 220kV Transmission Line Project from Gitega-Muyinga to Rusumo and Substations of Muyinga and Gitega which is progressing satisfactorily.

These LADP projects are expected to bring positive changes to communities of Muyinga and Kirundo provinces in the following areas:
Water supply systems: LADP-Burundi will rehabilitate 30 km water system in Giteranyi commune and 39 Km in Busoni Commune after design, ESIA RAP studies will be completed.
Youth centers: LADP-Burundi completed construction of youth centers in Giteranyi and Busoni Communes. A lot of efforts by both communes is put to equip the centers with training materials and related tools because it is important that they become operational and start to serve youth communities surrounding the area.
Health centers were built in Bugoma and Rugando villages in Giteranyi and Busoni Communes respectively and are now serving communities
Agriculture harvest: LADP-Burundi is constructing hangars in Kinanira area in Giteranyi commune for agricultural harvest.
Soil protection: LADP-Burundi is establishing measures to targeted areas for soil and water conservation and continuously monitoring how anti-erosion measures trenches are installed efficiently
Water Conservation Projects: LADP-Burundi is mobilizing farmers for soil and water conservation in addition to bamboo plantation
