The Rusumo Hydropower Project has been a significant initiative in the East African region, aimed at harnessing the potential of the Rusumo Falls on the Kagera River. As one of the largest infrastructure projects in the area, it has drawn the attention of various stakeholders. Recently, the Rusumo Power Company Limited (RPCL) Board of Directors along with the World Bank Technical Team, undertook a site visit and held a meeting to assess the progress of the project. The visit aimed to follow up on the project's advancement, which currently stands at an impressive 99.7% completion, with a focus on expediting the remaining work to avoid further delays in the Wet Test Commissioning.
On the 5th July RPCL Board of Directors and the World Bank Technical Team conducted a thorough site visit to the Rusumo Hydropower Project. The objective was to gain firsthand insights into the status of the construction, installation, and testing processes. The board members, accompanied by the project manager of NELSAP/PIU Eng. Alloyce Oduor, the Managing Director of RPCL Eng. Ntare Karitanyi, and the Chief Resident Engineer of the OE Eng. Bosco Mugabo as well as other key personnel, examined the different components of the power plant, including the dam, turbines, generators, transmission lines, and control room.
During the meeting held as part of the site visit, the board members received detailed progress reports from the project management team. Encouragingly, the Rusumo Hydropower Project is now at an impressive 99.7% completion rate, indicating significant milestones achieved. This notable progress reflects the dedicated efforts and commitment of the project team, contractors, and stakeholders involved.
However, despite the remarkable advancement, the board's overall remarks highlighted the need to expedite the remaining tasks to ensure timely completion. The focus was primarily on accelerating the final stages of construction, testing, and commissioning. With the Wet Test Commissioning phase approaching, it was imperative to avoid any further delays that could hinder the project's overall timeline.
