Tanzania Permanent Secretaries for Energy and Finance visits the Regional Rusumo Hydro Project
Tanzania Permanent Secretary for Energy, Mr. Felchesmi MRAMBA and Permanent Secretary for Finance, Mr. Emmanuel TUTUBA visited Rusumo Project on 5th July 2022. This high-level delegation was escorted by Members of Rusumo Power Company Limited Board of Directors, Eng. Innocent Luoga and Mr. Nuru Ndile and Eng. Salum Inegeja from Tanzania among other government senior officials.
The visitors were welcomed by Eng. Alloyce Oduor, the Project Manager of the Regional Rusumo Falls Hydroelectric Project implemented by NELSAP of the Nile Basin Initiative as well as the Managing Director of Rusumo Power Company Limited (RPCL), Eng. Ntare Karitanyi. The Project Manager walked the Tanzania governmental delegation around the main Project’s sites, at the dam and power intake, at the powerhouse and the switchyard.
Eng. Oduor presented the overall status of the Regional Rusumo Falls Hydroelectric Project which is now at a combined total of 94.7% as of June 2022, with Civil works are at 96.5% and the electro-mechanical works at 92%. “The Project is now removing fill materials of the phase 2 of cofferdam, working on temporary concreting of retaining walls and permanent installation of handrails; all this is a tremendous effort to completion of construction works at the Dam and Spillway”, he said. The Tanzania high-level delegation appreciated the progress seen at site and encouraged the Project Management to speed up this completion part given that shareholders need to start using the expected electricity. “Shareholders are expecting that RPCL will contribute to the development of their respective countries in increasing electricity to the national grid of our countries”, said the Tanzania Permanent Secretary for Energy, Mr. Felchesmi Mramba in an interview with the national media after the site visit.
