As a world-class Energy Company, World Labor Day is a significant celebration that RPCL observes with its employees in honoring their contribution and achievements. The 2025 RPCL Labor Day was highlighted by recreational activities and recognition of the most outstanding employees during the year of 2024-2025.
On May 1, 2025, RPCL organized the Labor Day for its staff at RPCL residential camp based in Rusumo area. Also invited were the staff of contractors and external service providers and partner institutions living in Rusumo surrounding communities. In the morning, they all assembled to participate in sporting and fun contests.
The winner of basketball game was Jean Pierre Niyomugabo, the winner of football was the catch team, the winner of rope pulling and table tennis was Charles Magesa. For the sack race, three winners were Jean Pierre Niyomugabo, the second winner was Haji Shebuge, the third winner was the gymnastic trainer at switchyard campsite, Mr Anicet, the 4th winner of sack race was Ntare Karitanyi and the 5th winner was Caritace Manampo. There was a trophy of good leadership that was won by the Plant Manager, the Finance and Administration Manager and the Managing Director.
There was a chicken run competition that was won by 5 winners and they all get the chicken they caught, that is Haji Shebuge, Caritace Manampo, Anicet the gym trainer at switchyard campsite, Omari Twaha and David Noel Sinzinkayo.


All RPCL staff participated in sporting contests on Labor Day 2025.
In the evening, a gala dinner was thrown to all and the Company recognized their three best employees of 2024-2025. RPCL rewarded with valuable awards those who demonstrated exceptional performance, professionalism, teamwork and commitment to RPCL’s mission and values.
“The good practice of the Company’s human resources management is to actively involve all staff in the nomination of the best employees using fair criteria in the standards of corporate human resources principles” affirmed Mr. Dismas Kisoka, RPCL Human Resource and Administration Officer. He acknowledged all staff for using HR benchmarks like job performance, commitment, teamwork and leadership, innovation and problem solving, customer service professionalism and adherence to RPCL values in the nomination process.
The best employee of RPCL in 2025 is Eng. Jean-Pierre Niyomugabo, a professional electrical technician focused on ensuring that the electrical systems and equipment of the Powerhouse and Switchyard remain well-operational.
The 2nd best employee is Eng. Thomas Nkongoli, one of the Plant operators responsible for monitoring the operation of the heavy machinery and systems at Rusumo Power Plant and Switchyard and ensuring the continuous, efficient and safe production of electricity. The two are dedicated engineers working at the Plant's Powerhouse and Switchyard and who make the technical department and the whole company proud of their contributions.

The 3rd best employee is the amazing office attendant, Mrs. Esther Joram Koya, a kind of the support system to RPCL administration building; she is an instance of commitment and is devoted to ensure that RPCL staff work in a clean and conducive environment.
RPCL Managing Director, Plant Manager and Financial and Administration Manager awarded the three best employees with top versions of Samsung Neo QLED televisions, a Samsung 65” 4K Ultra HD Smart Neo QLED TV for the best employee a Samsung 55” TV for the 1st runner-up and a Samsung 43” TV for the 2nd runner-up.
“As an energy company, RPCL Management and I recognize the vital role that each employee here plays in ensuring your respective tasks are well accomplished”, says Eng. Ntare Karitanyi, the RPCL Managing Director in his speech officiated the RPCL Labor Day event. He concluded encouraging all staff to foster a culture of excellence and appreciated their commitment to make this day memorable.
RPCL is now an operational regional energy company, fully staffed with skilled and experienced workforce from the three owner governments. As RPCL remains intentional on the importance continuous individual and organizational capacity building, all the Company’s personnel have so far received upgrade trainings with new skills and knowledge in their respective areas of work to enhance job performances and raise productivity.
